Es importante tomar medidas preventivas como el adecuado manejo y almacenamiento de los alimentos. Asimismo, una buena higiene de manos, en especial cuando se tiene contacto directo con aves de corral y sus huevos.
En caso de poseer un reptil, se recomienda la utilización de guantes al manipularlo o manipular sus excrementos, ya que la salmonela se puede pasar fácilmente desde el animal.
