Amebiasis - Treatment

Tratamiento:

El tratamiento depende de la gravedad de la infección. Generalmente, se administra metronidazol por vía oral durante 10 días.

Si usted está vomitando, puede necesitar medicamentos a través de una vena (intravenosos) hasta que pueda tolerarlos por vía oral. Por lo general, no se prescriben medicamentos antidiarreicos, ya que pueden empeorar la afección.

Después del tratamiento, se deben examinar de nuevo las heces para constatar que la infección haya desaparecido.

Expectativas (pronóstico):

El pronóstico generalmente es bueno con tratamiento. La enfermedad por lo regular dura aproximadamente dos semanas, pero puede reaparecer si no se administra tratamiento.

Complicaciones:

  • Absceso hepático
  • Efectos secundarios del medicamento, incluyendo náuseas
  • Diseminación del parásito a través de la sangre hacia el hígado, los pulmones, el cerebro u otros órganos
