Bocio nodular tóxico

Definición:

El bocio nodular tóxico implica un agrandamiento de la glándula tiroidea que contiene pequeñas masas redondas denominadas nódulos y que libera hormona tiroidea en exceso.

Causas, incidencia y factores de riesgo:

El bocio nodular tóxico se origina a partir de un bocio simple viejo y se presenta con mayor frecuencia en personas de edad avanzada. Los síntomas son los mismos del hipertiroidismo , pero no se presentan los globos oculares prominentes o saltones que se observan en la enfermedad de Graves . Los factores de riesgo son ser mujer y tener más de 60 años de edad. Este trastorno nunca se observa en niños.
