Se harán exámenes de sangre para verificar los niveles de calcio, fósforo y PTH. Un examen de orina se hace para determinar cuánto calcio está siendo eliminado del cuerpo.
Los niveles de fósforo serán bajos si uno tiene problemas de absorción y altos si uno tiene insuficiencia renal.
Las radiografías de los huesos y un examen de la densidad ósea pueden ayudar a detectar fracturas, pérdida ósea y reblandecimiento de los huesos.
