El examen de cetonas se puede usar en la diabetes tipo 1 para detectar cetoacidosis temprana. Este examen se hace usando una muestra de orina y por lo regular se lleva a cabo:

  • Cuando el azúcar en la sangre es superior a 240 mg/dL.
  • Durante una enfermedad como neumonía, ataque cardíaco o accidente cerebrovascular.
  • Cuando se presentan náuseas o vómitos.
  • Durante el embarazo.
