Deficiencia de niacina; Deficiencia de vitamina B3
Es una enfermedad que se presenta cuando una persona no obtiene suficiente niacina (una de las vitaminas del complejo B) o triptófano (un aminoácido).
La causa del pelagra es el hecho de tener muy poca niacina o triptófano en la alimentación y también puede ocurrir si el cuerpo no logra absorber estos nutrientes. Se puede presentar después de enfermedades gastrointestinales o con el alcoholismo.
Esta enfermedad es común en partes del mundo donde las personas consumen mucho maíz en su dieta.
