Hipopituitarismo - Treatment

Insuficiencia hipofisaria

Tratamiento:

Si el hipopituitarismo es causado por un tumor, es posible que usted necesite una cirugía para extirparle dicho tumor, con o sin radioterapia. Sin embargo, a menudo es necesario reponer las hormonas que están faltando, incluso después del tratamiento exitoso de un tumor hipofisario.

La terapia hormonal se hace necesaria para reponer hormonas que ya no son producidas por órganos que están bajo el control de la hipófisis y entre las cuales se pueden mencionar:

  • Corticosteroides (cortisol)
  • Hormona del crecimiento
  • Hormonas sexuales (testosterona en los hombres y estrógeno en las mujeres)
  • Hormona tiroidea

También hay disponibilidad de fármacos para tratar la infertilidad masculina y femenina conexa.

Expectativas (pronóstico):

El hipopituitarismo es por lo general permanente y requiere tratamiento de por vida. Sin embargo, se puede esperar un período de vida normal.

Complicaciones:

Se pueden presentar efectos secundarios por la terapia farmacológica. En la enfermedad grave, el hecho de no tomar corticosteroides adicionales puede ser mortal.
