Cistinuria - Treatment

Tratamiento:

El objetivo del tratamiento es aliviar los síntomas y prevenir el desarrollo de más cálculos. Una persona con síntomas severos puede requerir hospitalización.

El tratamiento consiste en tomar mucho líquido, particularmente agua, de manera que se produzcan grandes cantidades de orina. El paciente debe tomar al menos de 6 a 8 vasos de agua al día.

En algunos casos, es posible que se necesite la administración de líquidos por vía intravenosa (a través de una vena).

Se pueden prescribir medicamentos para ayudar a disolver los cristales de cistina. Asimismo, el hecho de consumir menos sal también puede disminuir la excreción de cistina y la formación de cálculos.

Se pueden necesitar analgésicos para controlar el dolor en el área del riñón o la vejiga asociado con el paso de los cálculos. Los cálculos generalmente salen en la orina por sí solos, pero si no lo hacen, se puede requerir una cirugía.

Pronóstico:

La cistinuria es una afección crónica y de por vida. Los cálculos con frecuencia reaparecen. Sin embargo, esta afección rara vez ocasiona insuficiencia renal y no afecta a otros órganos.
