Tratamiento:

El tratamiento de esta fiebre se debe hacer sobre los síntomas. La colchicina, un medicamento que reduce la inflamación, puede ser útil durante un ataque y puede prevenir nuevos ataques.

Expectativas (pronóstico):

No se dispone de ningún medicamento que cure completamente esta enfermedad. La mayoría de las personas continúan teniendo ataques, pero el número y severidad de éstos es diferente de una persona a otra.

Complicaciones:

El malestar es la complicación principal y hay riesgo de adicción a los analgésicos narcóticos utilizados para aliviar los síntomas.

La amiloidosis (depósitos de proteína en diferentes órganos) se presenta más frecuentemente en pacientes con fiebre mediterránea familiar. También se puede presentar enfermedad de la vesícula biliar.

Si se presentan síntomas de esta enfermedad, se debe buscar asistencia médica con el fin de descartar otras causas posibles y procurar el tratamiento adecuado. En caso de presentarse dolor crónico, se debe acudir donde un especialista en este campo.
