Carcinoma medular tiroideo - Treatment

Carcinoma medular de la tiroides; Cáncer tiroideo (carcinoma medular); CMT

Tratamiento:

El tratamiento consiste en una cirugía para extirpar la glándula tiroides y los ganglios linfáticos circundantes. Debido a que éste es un tumor poco común, la cirugía la debe llevar a cabo un cirujano que esté familiarizado con este tipo de cáncer.

La radioterapia y la quimioterapia no son muy efectivas para este tipo de cáncer. La radiación se emplea en algunos pacientes después de la cirugía. Hay muchos tratamientos nuevos que se están investigando actualmente en estudios clínicos.

Expectativas (pronóstico):

Aproximadamente el 86% de las personas con carcinoma medular tiroideo viven al menos 5 años después del diagnóstico y la tasa de supervivencia a 10 años es del 65%.

Complicaciones:

Las complicaciones pueden abarcar:

  • Cáncer que se disemina a otras áreas del cuerpo
  • Extirpación accidental de las glándulas paratiroides durante la cirugía
