Tiroiditis subaguda - Treatment

Tratamiento:

El propósito del tratamiento es reducir el dolor y la inflamación y tratar el hipertiroidismo si éste se presenta. Los medicamentos antinflamatorios, como la ácido acetilsalicílico (aspirin) o el ibuprofeno, se emplean para controlar el dolor en los casos leves.

Los casos más serios pueden requerir un tratamiento temporal con esteroides (por ejemplo, prednisona) para controlar la inflamación. Los síntomas de hipertiroidismo se tratan con un tipo de medicamentos denominados betabloqueadores (por ejemplo, propranolol o atenolol). Los fármacos antitiroideos o las tionamidas no son efectivos en el tratamiento de esta afección.

Expectativas (pronóstico):

La afección debe mejorar por sí sola. Sin embargo, la enfermedad puede durar meses. Generalmente, no se presentan complicaciones severas ni a largo plazo.

La tiroiditis subaguda reaparece después del tratamiento
