Tormenta tirotóxica

Definición:

La tormenta tirotóxica es una condición potencialmente mortal que se desarrolla en casos de tirotoxicosis no tratada ( hipertiroidismo ). Generalmente es precipitada por una situación de estrés agudo, como trauma o infección.

Los síntomas son graves, con latidos cardíacos rápidos ( taquicardia ), fiebre , sudoración , inquietud , temblores, diarrea y cambios en el estado de conciencia. Así mismo, se puede presentar agitación y confusión. La insuficiencia cardíaca congestiva y el edema pulmonar se pueden desarrollar rápidamente y conducir a la muerte.

ÉSTA ES UNA CONDICIÓN DE EMERGENCIA. SE DEBE LLAMAR AL 911 EN LOS ESTADOS UNIDOS O A OTRO NÚMERO DE EMERGENCIA SI SE PADECE DE HIPERTIROIDISMO Y SE EXPERIMENTAN ESTOS SÍNTOMAS.
