Crisis tirotóxica; Crisis hipertiroidea; Hipertiroidismo acelerado
Es una afección potencialmente mortal que se desarrolla en casos de tirotoxicosis sin tratamiento (hipertiroidismo).
La crisis tiroidea resulta del hipertiroidismo no tratado y generalmente es causada por una situación de estrés, como traumatismo o infección.
Los síntomas son graves y pueden abarcar:
Se llevan a cabo exámenes de sangre para evaluar la función tiroidea.
La insuficiencia cardíaca congestiva y el edema pulmonar se pueden desarrollar rápidamente y conducir a la muerte.
Ésta es una situación de emergencia. Llame al número local de emergencias (911 en los Estados Unidos) o a otro número de emergencia si tiene hipertiroidismo y experimenta síntomas de crisis tiroidea.
