Bursitis
Tratamiento:
El médico puede recomendar descanso o inmovilización temporal de la articulación afectada.
Los medicamentos antiinflamatorios no esteroides (AINES), como el ibuprofeno, pueden aliviar el dolor y la inflamación. Asimismo, la fisioterapia formal puede ayudar.
Si la inflamación no responde al tratamiento inicial, es posible que sea necesario extraer lÃquido de la bolsa e inyectar corticosteroides. Rara vez se requiere cirugÃa.
Una vez calmado el dolor, se debe comenzar a ejercitar el área afectada. Si se ha presentado atrofia muscular (debilidad y/o disminución en tamaño), el médico puede recomendar ejercicios para reestablecer la fortaleza e incrementar la movilidad.
La bursitis ocasionada por infección se trata con antibióticos. Algunas veces, se debe hacer un drenaje quirúrgico de la bolsa infectada.
Expectativas (pronóstico):
Esta enfermedad puede responder bien al tratamiento o puede convertirse en una afección crónica si no se logra corregir la causa subyacente.
Complicaciones:
- Se puede presentar bursitis crónica.
- Demasiadas inyecciones de esteroides en un corto tiempo pueden ocasionar lesión en los tendones circundantes.
Situaciones que requieren asistencia médica:
Se debe consultar al médico si los sÃntomas se repiten o no mejoran después de dos semanas de tratamiento.
