Enfermedad por depósitos de dihidrato de pirofosfato cálcico; Enfermedad CPPD

Síntomas:

  • Episodios de dolor articular y acumulación de líquido en la articulación que lleva a que se presente inflamación articular
  • Artritis crónica (prolongada)
  • Ausencia de síntomas entre los episodios

Signos y exámenes:

  • Un examen del líquido articular revelaría glóbulos blancos y cristales de pirofosfato cálcico.
  • Las radiografías de la articulación pueden mostrar daño articular, calcificación del cartílago y depósitos de calcio en los espacios articulares.

Las pruebas cuidadosas y el análisis de los cristales encontrados en las articulaciones le pueden ayudar al médico a diagnosticar la afección. Afortunadamente, dado que la mayoría de las afecciones que implican dolor articular se tratan con los mismos medicamentos, como esteroides y medicamentos antinflamatorios no esteroides, un diagnóstico temprano errado no necesariamente lleva a un tratamiento equivocado.
