Fibromialgia - Overview

Definición:

Es un síndrome común en el cual una persona tiene dolor prolongado en todo el cuerpo y sensibilidad en las articulaciones, los músculos, los tendones y otros tejidos blandos.

La fibromialgia también ha estado relacionada con fatiga, problemas de sueño, dolores de cabeza, depresión y ansiedad.

Causas:

Se desconoce la causa. Las posibles causas o desencadenantes de la fibromialgia abarcan:

Trauma físico o emocional.
Una respuesta anormal al dolor. Áreas en el cerebro que son responsables del dolor pueden reaccionar de manera diferente en los pacientes con fibromialgia.
Alteraciones del sueño.
Infección, como un virus, aunque no se ha identificado ninguno.

La fibromialgia es más común entre las mujeres de 20 a 50 años.

Las siguientes afecciones se pueden ver con la fibromialgia o simular sus síntomas:

Dolor crónico del cuello o la espalda
Síndrome de fatiga crónica
Depresión
Hipotiroidismo (baja actividad de la tiroides)
Enfermedad de Lyme
Trastornos del sueño
