Uretritis - Overview

Síndrome uretral; Uretritis no gonocócica; UNG

Definición:

Es la hinchazón e irritación (inflamación) de la uretra, el conducto que transporta orina desde el cuerpo.

Causas, incidencia y factores de riesgo:

La uretritis puede ser causada por bacterias o virus. Las mismas bacterias que causan las infecciones urinarias (E. coli) y algunas enfermedades de transmisión sexual (clamidia, gonorrea) pueden llevar a que se presente uretritis. Las causas virales de la uretritis incluyen el virus del herpes simple y el citomegalovirus.

Otras causas abarcan:

  • Lesión
  • Sensibilidad a químicos utilizados en espermicidas o jaleas, cremas o espumas anticonceptivas

Los factores de riesgo que predisponen a la uretritis abarcan:

  • Ser una mujer en edad reproductiva
  • Ser hombres entre 20 y 35 años
  • Tener parejas sexuales múltiples
  • Comportamiento sexual de alto riesgo (como relaciones sexuales anales sin condón)
  • Antecedentes de enfermedades de transmisión sexual (ETS)
