Artritis reactiva - Overview

Síndrome de Reiter; Artritis posinfecciosa

Definición:

Es un grupo de afecciones inflamatorias que involucran las articulaciones, la uretra y los ojos. También puede haber úlceras (lesiones) en la piel y en las membranas mucosas.

Causas:

La causa exacta de la artritis reactiva no se conoce. Muy comúnmente, este síndrome se presenta en los hombres antes de los 40 años de edad y se puede desarrollar después de una infección por Clamidia, Campylobacter, Salmonella o Yersinia. Asimismo, ciertos genes pueden hacer que uno sea más propenso al síndrome.

Este trastorno es raro en los niños pequeños, pero se puede presentar en los adolescentes.
