Enfermedad de Still del adulto - Overview

Enfermedad de Still en la adultez; AOSD

Definición:

Es una enfermedad poco común que causa fiebres altas, salpullido y dolor articular, y puede llevar a que se presente artritis prolongada (crónica).

La enfermedad de Still es una versión grave de la artritis idiopática juvenil (AIJ), que se presenta en niños. Los adultos pueden tener la misma afección, aunque con mucha menos frecuencia.

La enfermedad del adulto ahora se conoce más comúnmente como enfermedad de Still de inicio en el adulto (ESIA).

Causas, incidencia y factores de riesgo:

Menos de 1 de cada 100.000 personas desarrollan la enfermedad de Still del adulto cada año y es una dolencia que afecta a las mujeres con más frecuencia que a los hombres.

La enfermedad de Still que se presenta en niños se denomina artritis idiopática juvenil sistémica.

La causa de la enfermedad de Still del adulto se desconoce y no se han identificado sus factores de riesgo.
