Enfermedad de Still en la adultez; AOSD

Tratamiento:

El objetivo del tratamiento para la enfermedad de Still del adulto es controlar los síntomas de la artritis y generalmente la primera forma se hace con salicilatos (aspirina) y medicamentos antiinflamatorios no esteroides (AINES), como el ibuprofeno.

Se puede necesitar prednisona para los casos más graves y, en caso de que la enfermedad persista por un período prolongado (se vuelva crónica), podría ser necesaria la administración de medicamentos inmunodepresores (que ayudan a reducir la inflamación), tales como:

  • Metotrexato
  • Antagonistas del factor de necrosis tumoral (TNF) como Enbrel (etanercept)

Expectativas (pronóstico):

Los estudios muestran que todos los síntomas desaparecen en un año y nunca reaparecen en aproximadamente el 20% de los pacientes; mientras que en alrededor del 30% de los pacientes todos los síntomas desaparecen, pero luego reaparecen varias veces en los siguientes años.

Los síntomas continúan durante un período prolongado (crónico) en aproximadamente la mitad de los pacientes con enfermedad de Still del adulto.

Se debe buscar asistencia médica si se presentan síntomas de la enfermedad de Still del adulto. Igualmente, si se presenta tos o dificultad respiratoria después de haberse diagnosticado esta afección.
