Síntomas:

Síntomas iniciales:

  • Dolor sordo en el abdomen que se incrementa con el tiempo
  • Inflamación de una pierna
  • Disminución de la circulación en las piernas que lleva a que se presente dolor y decoloración
  • Dolor abdominal intenso con hemorragia debido a isquemia intestinal

Síntomas tardíos:

  • Disminución del gasto urinario
  • Ausencia total de orina (anuria)
  • Náuseas, vómitos, cambios en el pensamiento causados por insuficiencia renal y la acumulación de químicos tóxicos resultante en la sangre

Signos y exámenes:

  • Niveles elevados de BUN en suero y de creatinina
  • Ecografía del riñón que muestra hidronefrosis (distensión de la pelvis renal debida a acumulación de líquido) y una masa
  • Urografía excretora que muestra compresión y desviación de los uréteres
  • TC abdominal: es el mejor examen para detectar la masa retroperitoneal
  • IMR: ofrece resultados comparables con la TC
  • Biopsia que muestra ya sea fibrosis retroperitoneal o un tumor canceroso
