Nefritis intersticial - Treatment

Tratamiento:

El tratamiento se enfoca sobre la causa del problema. El hecho de evitar los medicamentos que lleven a esta afección puede aliviar los síntomas rápidamente.

La restricción en la sal y líquidos en la dieta puede mejorar la hinchazón y la hipertensión arterial. Asimismo, la restricción de proteína puede ayudar a controlar la acumulación de productos de desecho en la sangre ( azotemia) que puede llevar a que se presenten síntomas de insuficiencia renal aguda.

Si la diálisis es necesaria, generalmente se requiere sólo por poco tiempo.

Los corticosteroides o antinflamatorios pueden ayudar en algunos casos.

Pronóstico:

Casi siempre, la nefritis intersticial es un trastorno de corta duración. En raras ocasiones, puede causar daño permanente, incluyendo insuficiencia renal crónica.

Posibles complicaciones:

La acidosis metabólica se puede presentar debido a que los riñones no pueden eliminar suficiente ácido. Este trastorno puede llevar a que se presente insuficiencia renal aguda o enfermedad renal terminal.

Cuándo contactar a un profesional médico:

Consulte con el médico si tiene síntomas de nefritis intersticial.

Si padece nefritis intersticial, llame al médico si se presentan síntomas nuevos, especialmente si disminuye la lucidez mental o tiene una disminución del gasto urinario.
