Nefropatía por IgA - Treatment

Nefropatía por inmunoglobulina A; Enfermedad de Berger

Tratamiento:

El objetivo del tratamiento es aliviar los síntomas y prevenir o retrasar la insuficiencia renal crónica.

Se pueden administrar medicamentos para controlar la hipertensión arterial y la hinchazón ( edema). Se utilizan los inhibidores de la enzima convertidora de angiotensina (IECA) y los bloqueadores de los receptores de angiotensina (BRA). La medida más importante para retrasar el daño renal es controlar la presión arterial.

Asimismo, para tratar este trastorno, también se han empleado corticosteroides, otros medicamentos inmunodepresores y el aceite de pescado.

Puede restringirse el consumo de sal y líquidos para controlar la hinchazón y, en algunos casos, se puede recomendar una dieta con consumo de proteína de bajo a moderado.

Algunas personas necesitarán tomar medicamentos para bajar su colesterol.

Finalmente, muchos pacientes deben recibir tratamiento para enfermedad renal crónica.

Pronóstico:

La nefropatía por IgA progresa lentamente y, en muchos casos, no progresa en absoluto. La hipertensión, las grandes cantidades de proteína en la orina y el aumento en los niveles de BUN (nitrógeno ureico) o creatinina (exámenes de sangre que reflejan el funcionamiento renal) indican un riesgo más alto para el progreso de la enfermedad.

Alrededor del 25% de las personas con nefropatía por IgA desarrollan enfermedad renal terminal dentro de un lapso aproximado de 25 años.
