Pruebas y exámenes:

Un examen físico muestra signos de disminución de la función renal con edema. La presión arterial puede estar alta. Se pueden escuchar sonidos anormales cuando el médico ausculta el corazón y los pulmones, lo cual es indicio de hipervolemia.

Una biopsia del riñón no se utiliza para diagnosticar la nefritis lúpica, sino para determinar cuál es el tratamiento adecuado.
