Definición:

Es una hinchazón de un riñón debido a una acumulación o represamiento de orina.

Causas, incidencia y factores de riesgo:

La hidronefrosis es una afección que ocurre con una enfermedad, pero no es una enfermedad en sí. Los trastornos a menudo asociados con la hidronefrosis unilateral son, entre otros:

Uropatía obstructiva unilateral aguda
Uropatía obstructiva unilateral crónica
Reflujo vesicoureteral (reflujo de la orina de la vejiga al riñón)
Nefrolitiasis (cálculos renales)
Hidronefrosis que ocurre sin una causa conocida durante el embarazo

La hidronefrosis unilateral se presenta aproximadamente en 1 de cada 100 personas.
