Hidronefrosis

Tratamiento:

El tratamiento y pronóstico para la hidronefrosis unilateral depende de lo que esté causando la hinchazón renal. El tratamiento puede abarcar:

Un stent ureteral (sonda que permite al uréter drenar a la vejiga)
Una sonda de nefrostomía (permite que la orina bloqueada drene a través de la espalda)
Antibióticos para infecciones

Los pacientes que tienen sólo un riñón, que padecen trastornos que comprometen al sistema inmunitario como diabetes o HIV, o que hayan recibido un trasplante, deben ser tratados oportunamente.

Se pueden prescribir antibióticos preventivos para disminuir el riesgo de infecciones urinarias en pacientes que tengan hidronefrosis prolongada.

Expectativas (pronóstico):

La hidronefrosis prolongada conduce a la pérdida final de la función renal.

Complicaciones:

Si la hidronefrosis se deja sin tratamiento, puede presentarse daño permanente en el riñón afectado. La falla o insuficiencia renal es poco común con la hidronefrosis unilateral, debido a que el otro riñón funciona normalmente. Sin embargo, si el paciente sólo tiene un riñón funcionando, se presentará insuficiencia renal.

Situaciones que requieren asistencia médica:

La persona debe consultar con el médico si presenta dolor prolongado o intenso en un costado o si sospecha la presencia de hidronefrosis.
