Leucemia linfocítica crónica (LLC) - Overview

Definición:

Es un cáncer de un tipo de glóbulos blancos llamados linfocitos.

Causas:

La leucemia linfocítica crónica (LLC) causa un incremento lento en los glóbulos blancos llamados linfocitos B o células B. Las células cancerosas se diseminan desde la médula ósea hasta la sangre y también pueden afectar los ganglios linfáticos u otros órganos como el hígado y el bazo. Este tipo de leucemia finalmente provoca insuficiencia de la médula ósea.

Se desconoce la causa de la LLC. No existe ningún vínculo con la radiación, químicos cancerígenos o virus.

Este cáncer afecta principalmente a los adultos, alrededor de los 70 años y, rara vez, se observa en personas menores de 40 años. La enfermedad es más común en los judíos de ascendencia rusa o de Europa del este.
