Anemia por deficiencia de vitamina B12
Definición:
Es la disminución en el número de glóbulos rojos debido a la falta de vitamina B12 .

Causas, incidencia y factores de riesgo:
La vitamina B12 es esencial para el funcionamiento normal del sistema nervioso y para la producción normal de glóbulos sanguÃneos y se encuentra principalmente en carnes, productos lácteos y huevos. Para que la vitamina B-12 sea absorbida por el cuerpo, debe estar ligada a un factor intrÃnseco , una proteÃna secretada por las células en el estómago.
Las causas de la deficiencia de vitamina B12 son, entre otras:
- Una dieta baja en esta vitamina (por ejemplo, netamente vegetariana que excluye la carne, el pescado, los productos lácteos y los huevos)
- El alcoholismo crónico
- Una cirugÃa abdominal o intestinal que afecta la producción del factor intrÃnseco o la absorción
- Enfermedad de Crohn
- Trastornos por malabsorción intestinal
- Tenias
- Anemia perniciosa causada por una deficiencia del factor intrÃnseco
Los factores de riesgo de esta enfermedad están relacionados con las causas.
