Amiloidosis secundaria sistémica

Definición:

Es un trastorno en el cual se acumulan proteínas anormales en tejidos y órganos. Los montones de proteínas anormales se denominan amiloides.

Secundario significa que ocurre debido a otra enfermedad o situación. Por ejemplo, esta afección ocurre junto con infección crónica o enfermedad inflamatoria crónica.

Sistémica significa en todo el cuerpo. Por ejemplo, una enfermedad sistémica afecta el cuerpo entero.

Se desconoce la causa exacta de la amiloidosis. Una persona tiene mayor probabilidad de desarrollar amiloidosis sistémica secundaria si tiene una inflamación o infección prolongada.
