Trombocitopenia
Definición:
Es cualquier trastorno en el cual se presenta un número de plaquetas insuficiente. Las plaquetas son células sanguÃneas que ayudan a la coagulación de la sangre. Esta afección algunas veces se asocia con sangrado anormal.
Causas, incidencia y factores de riesgo:
La trombocitopenia a menudo se divide en 3 causas mayores de bajo número de plaquetas:
- Producción baja de plaquetas en la médula ósea
- Incremento en la descomposición de las plaquetas en el torrente sanguÃneo (llamada intravascular)
- Incremento en la descomposición de las plaquetas en el bazo o en el hÃgado (llamada extravascular)
Los trastornos que involucran la producción baja de plaquetas en la médula ósea abarcan:
- Anemia aplásica
- Cáncer en la médula ósea
- Infecciones en la médula ósea (poco común)
- Drogas (muy raro)
Los trastornos que involucran la descomposición de las plaquetas abarcan:
- Púrpura trombocitopénica inmunitaria (PTI)
- Trombocitopenia inmunitaria inducida por medicamentos
- Trombocitopenia no inmunitaria inducida por medicamentos
- Púrpura trombocitopénica trombótica
- Coagulación intravascular diseminada (CID)
- Hiperesplenismo
