Macroglobulinemia de Waldenstrom

Tratamiento:

La plasmaféresis o intercambio de plasma elimina sustancias indeseables de la sangre. En la macroglobulinemia, este procedimiento elimina o reduce el alto nivel de IgM y se utiliza para controlar rápidamente los síntomas causados por el espesamiento de la sangre.

La terapia con medicamentos puede incluir esteroides, Leukeran, Alkeran, Citoxan, fludarabina o rituximab.

Los pacientes con un bajo número de glóbulos rojos, de glóbulos blancos o de plaquetas pueden requerir transfusiones o antibióticos.

Expectativas (pronóstico):

La supervivencia promedio es de alrededor de cinco años. En algunas personas, el trastorno puede producir pocos síntomas y progresar lentamente.
