No se debe dar miel ni jarabe de maÃz a bebés menores de 1 año (ni siquiera para medio endulzar el biberón).

Siempre se deben descartar las latas que presenten abultamientos o alimentos en conserva con mal olor. Se deben esterilizar los alimentos enlatados caseros, cocinándolos en una olla a presión a 120° C (250° F) durante 30 minutos.

Se deben conservar las patatas horneadas envueltas en papel aluminio calientes o en el refrigerador y no a temperatura ambiente

Si es posible, el botulismo infantil se puede prevenir con la lactancia materna
