Tratamiento:

El tratamiento para la actinomicosis es a largo plazo, con la aplicación de penicilina durante 1 a 2 meses por vía intravenosa, seguido de penicilina oral durante 6 a 12 meses. Otras drogas también han sido efectivas.

Nota: la doxiciclina no suele ser recetada para los niños hasta después de que les hayan salido todos los dientes permanentes, ya que puede decolorar los dientes que todavía se están formando.

Se puede requerir el drenaje quirúrgico de la lesión.

Expectativas (pronóstico):

Debe esperarse una recuperación total después del tratamiento.

Complicaciones:

Se puede desarrollar una meningitis después de la infección.

Situaciones que requieren asistencia médica:

Se debe acudir al médico si se desarrollan síntomas de este trastorno; un tratamiento a tiempo acelera la recuperación.
