Prevención:
Se puede disminuir el riesgo de contraer meningitis al brindar atención oportuna a los casos de neumonÃa e infecciones del oÃdo causadas por el neumococo. Igualmente, en el mercado existen dos vacunas efectivas para la prevención de la infección por neumococo.
La recomendación actual es vacunar a las personas en alto riesgo de padecer neumonÃa, a niños y a personas mayores de 55 años.
