Meningitis meningocócica

Prevención:

Se recomienda que todos los familiares y contactos cercanos (especialmente en ambientes escolares y hospitalarios) de personas con este tipo de meningitis inicien terapia antibiótica preventiva tan pronto como sea posible para evitar la diseminación de la infección. Se le debe preguntar al médico sobre esto durante la consulta inicial.

Tan pronto como se hace el diagnóstico del primer caso, se debe estar alerta a la aparición de signos tempranos de la enfermedad en contactos cercanos que comparten la misma casa, escuela o guardería. Se recomienda implementar siempre los buenos hábitos sanitarios, como lavarse las manos antes y después de cambiar pañales, o después de usar el baño.

Las vacunas son efectivas en el control de las epidemias y se recomiendan actualmente para los estudiantes universitarios y los individuos que prestan el servicio militar, al igual que para los viajeros que van a ciertos lugares del mundo.
