Meningitis por gramnegativos
Definición:
La meningitis por gramnegativos es una infección de las membranas que cubren el cerebro y la médula espinal (meninges), causada por bacterias gramnegativas (bacterias que se tornan de color rosado cuando se las expone a una tinción especial).

La meningitis bacteriana aguda, que puede ser causada por bacterias gramnegativas, es muy grave y debe ser tratada inmediatamente para prevenir daño permanente. Dentro de las bacterias gramnegativas que causan este tipo de meningitis se encuentran: Pseudomona aeruginosa, Escherichia coli, Enterobacter aerogenes, Proteus morganii y Klebsiella pneumoniae .
La meningitis por gramnegativos es mucho más común en los bebés que en los adultos.
Entre los factores de riesgo en adultos y niños se pueden mencionar neurocirugÃas y traumas o lesiones en la cabeza recientes. La infección está algunas veces asociada con la colocación de una derivación para lÃquido cefalorraquÃdeo después de una cirugÃa cerebral. Las anomalÃas de la columna y de las vÃas urinarias, una infección local o una infección urinaria pueden hacer que los niños sean vulnerables a este tipo de meningitis.
