Meningitis por bacterias gramnegativas

Definición:

La meningitis por gramnegativos es una infección de las membranas que cubren el cerebro y la médula espinal (meninges), causada por bacterias que se tornan de color rosado cuando se las expone a una tinción especial (bacterias gramnegativas).

La meningitis bacteriana aguda puede ser causada por bacterias gramnegativas. Dentro de las bacterias gramnegativas que causan este tipo de meningitis se encuentran:

Acinetobacter baumannii
Enterobacter aerogenes
Escherichia coli
Klebsiella pneumoniae
Pseudomonas aeruginosa

La meningitis por gramnegativos es mucho más común en los bebés que en los adultos.

Entre los factores de riesgo en adultos y niños se pueden mencionar:

Infección local
Cirugía cerebral reciente
Traumatismo craneal reciente
Anomalías de la columna
Colocación de una derivación para líquido cefalorraquídeo después de una cirugía del cerebro
Anomalías de las vías urinarias
Infección urinaria
Sistema inmunitario debilitado
