Signos y exámenes:
Para cualquier paciente con meningitis, es importante que los médicos lleven a cabo una punción lumbar (punción en la columna) para tomar una muestra del lÃquido cefalorraquÃdeo (conocido como LCR) para realizarle su respectivo análisis.
- Presión arterial baja
- Frecuencia cardÃaca rápida
- Rigidez de cuello
- Conteo de glóbulos blancos elevado
- El lÃquido cefalorraquÃdeo muestra aumento en los glóbulos blancos, glucosa baja y proteÃna alta
- La tinción especial del LCR muestra glóbulos blancos y algunas veces bacterias gramnegativas
- Cultivo de LCR que muestra proliferación de bacterias gramnegativas
- Hemocultivo que muestra proliferación de bacterias gramnegativas
- Una TC cerebral que usualmente es normal
