Cisticercosis - Tratamiento

Tratamiento:

El tratamiento puede involucrar:

  • Medicamentos para eliminar los parásitos (medicamentos antiparasitarios)
  • Antinflamatorios potentes (esteroides) para disminuir la hinchazón

Si el quiste se encuentra en el ojo o el cerebro, se puede iniciar el tratamiento con esteroides algunos días antes de administrar otros medicamentos para evitar los problemas causados por la hinchazón durante el tratamiento antiparasitario.

Algunas veces, es posible que se requiera la cirugía para extirpar el área infectada.

Expectativas (pronóstico):

El pronóstico generalmente es bueno, a menos que la lesión haya causado ceguera, insuficiencia cardíaca o daño cerebral, complicaciones que son poco frecuentes.

Complicaciones:

  • Ceguera, disminución en la visión.
  • Insuficiencia cardíaca o ritmo cardíaco anormal.
  • Convulsiones, aumento de la presión en el cerebro.
