En general, se prescriben medicamentos antiparasitarios como albendazol, mebendazol o pamoato de pirantel. Ivermectin, utilizado para otras infecciones por gusanos, no funciona para las infecciones por anquilostomas.
Los síntomas y complicaciones de la anemia se tratan a medida que surgen. El médico probablemente recomendará aumentar la cantidad de proteína en la dieta.
Si el tratamiento se administra antes de que se desarrollen complicaciones serias, se da la recuperación completa. La infección es fácilmente erradicable con tratamiento.
