Chancroide

Definición:

Es una enfermedad bacteriana que se disemina únicamente por contacto sexual.

Causas, incidencia y factores de riesgo:

El chancroide es una infección de transmisión sexual causada por un tipo de bacterias llamadas Haemophilus ducreyi.

La enfermedad se encuentra principalmente en las naciones en vías de desarrollo y países del tercer mundo. En los Estados Unidos, solamente se diagnostican unos cuantos cientos de casos cada año y la mayor parte de estos casos corresponde a personas que han viajado a zonas fuera del país donde se sabe que la enfermedad ocurre frecuentemente.

Los hombres no circuncidados tienen un riesgo mucho mayor que los hombres circuncidados de contraer el chancroide de una pareja infectada. El chancroide es un factor de riesgo para contraer el virus del VIH.
