Granuloma inguinal

Es una enfermedad de transmisión sexual que rara vez se ve en los Estados Unidos.

Causas, incidencia y factores de riesgo:

El granuloma inguinal es causado por la bacteria Calymmatobacterium granulomatis. La enfermedad es común en las áreas tropicales y subtropicales del mundo, como el sudeste de India, Guyana y Nueva Guinea, pero puede presentarse en ocasiones en los Estados Unidos, típicamente en el sudeste, con una notificación de aproximadamente 100 casos por año.

La enfermedad se disemina sobre todo a través de la relación sexual vaginal o anal y, rara vez, se propaga durante el sexo oral.

Los hombres resultan afectados con frecuencia más del doble que las mujeres y la mayoría de las infecciones se presentan en personas entre los 20 y 40 años de edad. La enfermedad rara vez se observa en niños y en ancianos.
