Tratamiento:

Varios antibióticos son efectivos contra el carbunco, incluyendo penicilina, doxiciclina y ciprofloxacina. El carbunco por inhalación generalmente se trata con ciprofloxacina más otro agente antibiótico.

La duración del tratamiento normalmente tarda alrededor de 60 días para los individuos expuestos al carbunco, dado que a las esporas les toma ese tiempo germinar.

Expectativas (pronóstico):

El pronóstico del carbunco por inhalación una vez que alcanza la segunda etapa es bastante desalentador, incluso con terapia de antibióticos. Hasta un 90% de los casos en esta etapa son fatales.
