Definición:

Es una infección de las membranas que recubren el cerebro y la médula espinal (meninges).

La meningitis tuberculosa es causada por el Mycobacterium tuberculosis, la bacteria que causa la tuberculosis y que se disemina al cerebro desde otro sitio en el cuerpo.

Entre los factores de riesgo se pueden mencionar:

SIDA
Consumo de alcohol en forma excesiva
Tuberculosis pulmonar
Sistema inmunitario debilitado

La meningitis tuberculosa es un trastorno muy poco común en los Estados Unidos.
