Síndrome de shock tóxico - Síntomas

Síntomas:

  • Fiebre alta y acompañada en algunas ocasiones por escalofríos
  • Malestar profundo (indisposición)
  • Náuseas
  • Vómitos
  • Diarrea
  • Erupción roja y generalizada que se asemeja a una quemadura solar
  • Erupción seguida después de una o dos semanas por descamación de la piel, especialmente en las palmas de las manos y plantas de los pies
  • Enrojecimiento de ojos, boca y garganta
  • Confusión
  • Convulsiones
  • Dolores de cabeza
  • Dolores musculares
  • Hipotensión (presión arterial baja)
  • Insuficiencia en órganos (generalmente los riñones y el hígado)

Signos y exámenes:

No existe un examen particular de diagnóstico para el síndrome de shock tóxico. El diagnóstico se fundamenta en varios criterios que incluyen: fiebre, presión arterial baja, erupción descamativa después de 1-2 semanas y al menos 3 órganos con signos de disfunción. En algunos casos, los hemocultivos pueden ser positivos para el crecimiento de Staphylococcus aureus.
