Endocarditis de cultivo negativo

Síntomas:

Los síntomas de endocarditis se pueden desarrollar lentamente (subaguda) o de manera repentina (aguda). La fiebre es el síntoma clásico y puede persistir por días antes de que cualquier otro síntoma aparezca.

Otros síntomas pueden abarcar fatiga extrema y dificultad respiratoria.

Signos y exámenes:

Normalmente hay una fuente obvia de infección, como un catéter infectado, un absceso dental o una lesión cutánea infectada. Sin embargo, en muchos pacientes no hay ningún antecedente de infección.

Un examen físico puede revelar:

Soplo cardíaco
Taquicardia (frecuencia cardíaca rápida)

Se pueden hacer los siguientes exámenes:

Radiografía de tórax
Conteo sanguíneo completo
Ecocardiografía (ecografía del corazón)
EKG
Ecocardiografía transesofágica (ETE), una ecocardiografía especial que se hace introduciendo una pequeña sonda a través de la boca hasta el esófago del paciente
