Sífilis tardía

Es una fase tardía de la enfermedad de transmisión sexual sífilis, causada por la espiroqueta Treponema pallidum.

La sífilis es una enfermedad infecciosa de transmisión sexual causada por la espiroqueta Treponema pallidum. La sífilis tiene tres etapas principales:

Este artículo se enfoca en la sífilis terciaria, la cual puede seguir a la infección inicial (sífilis primaria) hacia los 3 hasta los 15 años.

En la sífilis terciaria, los microorganismos causantes de la infección han continuado multiplicándose por años. Los focos de daño o lesiones afectan diversos tejidos como huesos, piel, tejido nervioso, corazón y arterias. A estas lesiones se las denomina gomas y son muy destructivas.

La sífilis terciaria se ve con menos frecuencia hoy que en el pasado, debido a la detección temprana y al tratamiento adecuado.
