SÃntomas:
Los sÃntomas de la sÃfilis terciaria dependen de qué sistemas orgánicos han sido afectados, varÃan ampliamente y son difÃciles de diagnosticar. En los individuos con sÃfilis terciaria, los estadios primarios y secundarios de la sÃfilis generalmente ya han sido olvidados y los hallazgos médicos de aneurismas aórticos y problemas neurológicos exigen una capacidad de diagnóstico sagaz para relacionarlos con la sÃfilis. Algunos de los problemas sintomáticos se mencionan a continuación:
- Tumores infiltrantes de piel, huesos o hÃgado ( gomas )
- SÃfilis cardiovascular que afecta la aorta y causa aneurismas o valvulopatÃa
- Trastornos del sistema nervioso central (neurosÃfilis)
Signos y exámenes:
- Pruebas sanguÃneas VDRL o RPR
- Exámenes de sangre confirmatorios tales como FTA-ABS (prueba de anticuerpos treponémicos fluorescentes)
- El examen del lÃquido cefalorraquÃdeo en neurosÃfilis evidencia signos de meningitis
