Neumonía por citomegalovirus - Treatment

Neumonía por CMV; Neumonía a causa del citomegalovirus

Tratamiento:

El objetivo del tratamiento es impedir que el virus se copie en el cuerpo a través del uso de fármacos antivirales. Algunas personas con neumonía por CMV necesitarán que les administren medicamentos a través de una vena (intravenosos). Además, algunas personas podrían inicialmente necesitar oxigenoterapia y soporte respiratorio con un respirador para mantener la oxigenación hasta que la infección esté controlada.

Expectativas (pronóstico):

Los medicamentos antivirales impiden que el virus se copie a sí mismo, pero no lo destruyen. El CMV en sí inhibe el sistema inmunitario y puede aumentar el riesgo de otras infecciones debido a la inmunodepresión adicional.

Complicaciones:

Las complicaciones de la infección por CMV en personas con SIDA abarcan:

  • Neumonía por CMV
  • Enfermedad esofágica
  • Enfermedad intestinal
  • Enfermedad infecciosa similar a la mononucleosis (mononucleosis por CMV)
  • Inflamación de la retina (retinitis por CMV)

Las complicaciones de la neumonía por CMV abarcan:

  • Daño renal (por los fármacos utilizados para tratar la afección)
  • Conteo de glóbulos blancos bajo (por los fármacos utilizados para tratar la afección)
  • Infección arrolladora que no responde al tratamiento
  • Retorno de infecciones
