Síntomas:

Drenaje del oído persistente, de color amarillo o verde-amarillento y con olor fétido
Pérdida de la audición
Dolor de oído que se siente en lo profundo y puede empeorar al mover la cabeza
Prurito en el oído o en el conducto auditivo
Fiebre

Signos y exámenes:

El médico examinará el oído en búsqueda de signos de una infección del oído externo (otitis externa). La zona de la cabeza alrededor y detrás del oído puede ser sensible al tacto. Un examen neurológico puede revelar compromiso de los nervios craneales.

En caso de haber algún flujo, el médico puede enviar una muestra al laboratorio para realizar un cultivo, con el propósito de buscar hongos o bacterias, generalmente las pseudomonas.

Para buscar señales de una infección del hueso adyacente al conducto auditivo, se pueden realizar los siguientes exámenes:
