Definición:

El oído de nadador es una inflamación, irritación o infección de la parte externa del oído y del conducto auditivo externo. Es crónico cuando la afección no desaparece o reaparece múltiples veces.

Causas, incidencia y factores de riesgo:

El oído de nadador (otitis externa) es bastante común.

Una forma de contraer esta enfermedad es nadar en aguas contaminadas. La humedad predispone al oído a la infección por hongos o bacterias hidrófilas, como las Pseudomonas. Otras bacterias o, rara vez, hongos también pueden causar infección.

Otras causas abarcan:

  • Enfermedad en el hueso ( otitis externa maligna)
  • Tener un objeto clavado en el oído
  • Tratamiento inadecuado
  • Rascarse el oído
